Gerakan slams ‘troublemaker’ Isma for attacking Najib

KUALA LUMPUR, Apr 28: Gerakan Youth has lashed out at  Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma) which condemned the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali over their handling of the Taman Medan church protest.

“Isma needs to understand the Federal Constitution, Islam and other religion is protected under the supreme law, there is never an issue of any religion being undermined. (I can provide a free course if they want),” said its deputy chief Andy Yong.

“Who are they to criticise Najib, Azmin or other leaders?” he asked.

He added that Isma is “merely an attention-seeker and down with inferiority complex”.

“Such organisation is a troublemaker, should be banned as their record proved to be detrimental to our harmonious and peaceful multiracial society,” he said, in a WhatsApp message to The Malaysian Times (TMT) today.

He was commenting on Isma deputy president Abdul Rahman Dali’s statement that said Muslims in Malaysia are disappointed with the Prime Minister and Menteri Besar’s handling of the protest.

Abdul Rahman reportedly said that: “You cannot expect anything from leaders like Najib and Azmin because they are unable to defend the position of Islam and tackle the growing aggressiveness of (Christian) evangelists

“What is more disappointing is when they (political leaders) and Islamic leaders are ignorant about the evangelists’ agenda be it in Malaysia or globally.

“On the contrary, they (political leaders) in chasing votes, race with one another to support the ‘cunning’ agenda of the evangelists and ignore the concerns of local residents,” Abdul Rahman added.

In response to Abdul Rahman’s claim, Andy said “who said Christians are planting church to proselytise the Muslims…they (Isma) are insulting loving and matured Muslim society who are faithful to their religion and understand the beauty of our multi-religious nation”.

Andy also questioned Isma’s intention as the movement making provocative remarks consistently.

“Imagine if similar organisation like Isma exists from the non-Muslim community, what will happen then?” he asked.

He called on the media not to highlight Isma’s “irresponsible statements”.

“Moderation and tolerance is the way to go in our peace – loving society,” Andy added.
