Clarify state policy on concerts, Gerakan Youth tells Selangor

KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 — Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang today urged Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali to clarify the state policy on concerts after another one was cancelled recently.

He was referring to the sudden cancellation of the “Thirst 2015: We Are All StarDust” concert at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre (MIECC) scheduled last Saturday.

“The flip flop policy of Selangor Pakatan government had caused severe losses to the organiser of the concert and also inconvenience to the people who had bought the tickets.

“This is a major embarrassment for our country.

“Selangor Mentri Besar YAB Azmin Ali should come forward and clarify the state’s actual policy to avoid any further embarrassment to our country,” he said in a statement.

The concert which was scheduled on April 25, received a permit from Majlis Perbandaran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) on April 22 this year.

Two days later, the organisers received a letter from MPSJ revoking the permit because the police was not supportive of the concert.

DAP’s Dr Ong Kian Ming, the MP of Serdang where MIECC falls under, on Sunday demanded local police to explain why they had withdrew their support for the concert, which led to MBSJ revoking the permit.

Today however, news portal The Malaysian Insider reported that PAS’ Seri Serdang assemblyman Noor Hanim Ismail had submitted an objection letter the day before the concert, the police claimed led to its eleventh-hour cancellation.

She told the news portal that it was her responsibility as a Muslim to oppose the concert, which is sponsored by beer company Heineken.

Tan urged the Pakatan Rakyat state government to be “truthful” on this matter and not “mislead” the people.

“Why did Pakatan try to blame others when it was Pakatan Selangor state representative who objected the said concert?

“For the record, it was also MPSJ, under the jurisdiction of Selangor Pakatan government which revoked the permit of the concert and warned of stern action against the organiser,” he said.
