Gerakan Vice President, Dr. Asharuddin Ahmad condemned a recent video posted by a group calling themselves “Anak Malaysia Anti Demokrasi” (Amad) who threatened to assassinate Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar by blowing up his car. He was concerned on the malicious intent and potential violence that was highlighted in the video and called for stern and immediate action be taken against the purported anarchists.

Asharuddin said Gerakan notes with deep concern that the video was dangerously spreading the alien and destructive idea of anarchism and violence amongst Malaysian public. He asserted that our peaceful society must not in the slightest degree be affected or succumb to the ideological invasion that would unravel the foundation of our nation.

“Malaysia has stable institutions guaranteeing democracy, the rule of law, human rights and respect for all communities. We must maintain rationality and civic consciousness in our social upbringing. Any attempt to evoke chaos and disorder by means of violence and intimidation deserves our strongest condemnation,” said Asharuddin

Asharuddin stressed that the seed of destruction must not be allowed to sprout. Gerakan calls on detractors to engage in mature debates and express their opinions to officials through lawful institutional channels. He supported IGP’s response to investigate and take stern action against purported anarchists while also encouraging authorities to embark on more effective public outreach and engagement programmes.
