Chinese New Year not a time to instigate hatred, says Gerakan

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 2, 2015:

Chinese New Year is not a time to instigate hatred, says Gerakan on DAP Seputeh Member of Parliement Teresa Kok’s 1 Goat Year, 1 Great Family satirical video.

Its chief Tan Keng Liang said the five-minute video uploaded on YouTube was done against the spirit of the biggest annual Chinese celebration, which was supposed to be a time for families, relatives, friendships and reunions, and definitely not a time to put down others.

“Pakatan leaders should learn to respect the celebration of Chinese New Year and not take it as an opportunity to hit out at their opponents.

“I believe both PAS’ YB Khalid Samad and PKR’s YB Nurul Izzah (Anwar) wouldn’t want such a video to be produced in conjunction with the celebration of Hari Raya,” said Tan in a statement today.

Aside from Nurul Izzah and Khalid, the video, which now had over 72,000 views, featured national laureate Datuk A. Samad Said, Suaram executive director Cynthia Gabriel, DAP leader Dr Hew Kuan Yau, who is also known as Superman, and actress Lim Jing Miao.

The video was posted on Kok’s Facebook yesterday morning, accompanied with a statement which read, “the video was a call on Malaysians of different races and beliefs to be one great family of Malaysian(s) who treasure virtues, peace and harmony”.

The contents, however were said by many to present the opposite to the accompanying statement as it seemed to focus greatly on poking fun at Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, his wife and his administration.
