2014 Christmas Message

Gerakan National President

Y.B. Dato’ Mah Siew Keong

The advent of Christmas has always been a special day that kicks start the holiday season. It is also a time for us to undertake an introspective reflection over the past one year. We welcome this special day with gratefulness and fulfillment.

In 2014, we have witnessed an eventful year of the country, in both peace and prosperity as well as challenge and change. The worrying rise of racial and religious overtones uttered by certain irresponsible parties have certainly upset most peace-loving Malaysians. We are disappointed by a series of ill-considered attempts that challenge the rule of law and the sanctity of the Federal Constitution. We are also deeply disturbed by the ongoing polemics and offence that go against our values as a moderate and rational nation.

Hence, it is important that we heed to the timeless and universal message in Christmas time – our society ought to continue its path guided by faith and kindness. Regardless of race or religious affiliation, we must lead a life of humility and compassion. I believe that Christmas is an opportunity for us to spread the meaning of togetherness, understanding and love among Malaysians. In this season of hope and generosity, let us unite as Malaysians to ensure that we are doing everything we can to keep our beloved nation on course for greater stability and prosperity.

On behalf of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia, I wish all Malaysians a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
