Where is the remaining money, asks Gerakan

Penang Gerakan Youth is demanding that state government explain where is the remaining RM2.7 million allotted for the Wet World Wild (WWW) Adventure Park that ceased operations this month is.

Its head Hng Chee Wey pointed out that according to Wibit Sports, the supplier of the theme park equipment from Germany, the cost of the equipment used at WWW was only RM280,000.

“However, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s claimed that setting up of WWW cost RM3 million and thus the Pakatan Rakyat government should issue  a public explanation on what happened to the remaining sum,” said Hng.

He said as a state government promoting the Credibility, Accountability and Transparency (CAT) stand,  it should come clean on the actual cost of WWW.

“The state government should come clean on the cost, which is more than 10 times as reported by the chief minister.

“What was the remaining RM2.7 million spent on?” asked Hng at a press conference at the Penang Gerakan office in Jalan Macalister here today.

Also present were Penang Gerakan Youth secretary Ooi Zhi Yi, who is also the party national youth deputy secretary-general, and committee members Tang Ching Sern and Johnny Chai Yew.

WWW was the brainchild of Theme Park Concepts & Services Sdn Bhd (TPCS) in collaboration with the Penang Global Tourism (PGT) Board, which was set up by the state government to promote tourism.

The theme park was officiated by the chief minister in December last year.

TPCS chief executive officer Richard Koh claimed that the equipment of the WWW was badly damaged by strong waves in early October.

Gerakan, however, refuted Koh’s claims saying checks on the National Geographic website revealed that the super-moon waves occurred in August this year.

“We urge the state government and the operator to give accurate information on all issues regarding closure of WWW,” said Hng, who is also Gerakan Bukit Bendera division chairman.

Meanwhile, H’ng challenged DAP’s Bukit Bendera MP, Zairil Khir Johari and former Teluk Intan by-election candidate, Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud to lodge police reports over photographs of them posing intimately which went viral non social media recently.

He said by lodging the reports, both Zairil and Dyana Sofya would not only clear their names but also save Barisan Nasional from being dragged into the unethical cyber posting.

He said if both the DAP politicians were innocent as claimed they should not hesitate to lodge the reports and let the police investigate.

He rubbished claims by PR and cyber mongers that BN was behind the postings.

“BN is against gutter politics and will never use such tactics to bring down opponents,” said H’ng, who is also the Penang BN youth chief.
