Gerakan Wanita supports preventive laws

Gerakan Wanita chief Datuk Tan Lian Hoe has endorsed the enforcement of preventive laws such as the Sedition Act to ensure the country remains stable, politically.

Speaking during the Barisan Nasional (BN) component party’s 43rd national delegates conference, today, Tan said the move was necessary to ensure the country upholds its Federal Constitution and Rukun Negara.

“Let’s develop and progress according to what we mould.

“There is no need for us to be swayed by democratic cries that could end up consuming us,” she told the delegates.

Stressing that there was no absolute democracy in this world, Tan said that the people could not do as they please based on human rights.

“Democracy and human rights have its limits.

“The liberalisation that the government provides should be respected and appreciated instead of being challenged and stepped on,” she said.

Tan who is also former Gerik MP also slammed the Opposition over its inability to stay united especially during the recent Selangor Menteri Besar crisis.

“Even though they (Pakatan Rakyat) sleep on the same pillow, it is impossible for them to ever stand united given their different agendas and motives.

“Gerakan Wanita would like to call on the people to return their support back to us now.

“Do not delay and ruin your children’s future like the Chinese proverb ‘until we see the casket, we would not tear, once it arrives, it would be too late’,” she said to the applause from the delegates.

She added that Gerakan Wanita is also serious in opposing PAS’ long-standing proposal to implement hudud.

“The Chinese community continues to be fooled by DAP despite their stand against hudud because PAS has continued to bring their agenda to Parliament level to be tabled.

“DAP is unable to stop PAS as they are unable to give a proper stand against hudud, and this is why we condemned them as betrayers to the Chinese community,” she said.
