Youth should be inculcated with Deepavali spirit to kick start social renewal – Gerakan

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 : Gerakan Vice President, Datuk A. Kohilan Pillay said that Deepavali is known as the Festival of Lights, symbolizing the victory of which good triumphs over evil. He invited all to take inspiration from the meaningful festival as Malaysians must reject extremism and divisive movements.
“We should embrace moderation and inclusiveness in order to build a Bangsa Malaysia and live up to the 1Malaysia concept. Deepavali provides a good opportunity for Malaysians to rejoice with our fellow citizens of all races and religious backgrounds.
“At the same time, it also emphasises our moral duty to continue defending the righteousness, morality and principles in our social orientation,” said Kohilan in statement today.
Kohilan also said that youth form the backbone of the country and also represent our future.
He stressed the need for continual youth engagement and empowerment by government.
He asserted that the spirit of Deepavali should be inculcated and internalised by Malaysian youth to initiate a much needed social renewal for the nation that promise a brighter future for the country so that we can move forward as proud and united nation.

Kohilan also added that Gerakan will hold a Deepavali Open House organised by its Organising Committee Chairman, Parameswaran  Ganason on 26 October 2014 (Sunday) from 10.00am to 1.00pm at Kampung Sg. Kayu Ara, PKNS, Damansara Utara’s grass field.
