Gerakan Selangor confident of winning in upcoming elections

KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan Selangor is confident of winning at least two state seats should a snap poll takes place as well as in the next General Election.

Gerakan president Datuk Mah Siew Keong said that the party have identified candidates to contest at Bukit Gasing, Bukit Lanjan, Teratai and Kota Alam Shah seats.

However Mah said that it would in the best interest of the people not to have a snap election in Selangor.

"Selangor is facing many issues like water crisis and dengue, so to have a snap poll will take away the focus on resolving key issues.

"The election will also cost a lot of money about RM50 million and be time consuming. Since there is a clear majority support for another Menteri Besar candidate, one should follow the democratic principals," Mah said after chairing a discussion on the party election workshop' with the Gerakan Selangor members.

On the question of having a female MB, Mah said that gender was never an issue.

"Our Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Zeti Aziz is one of the best in Asia, so gender is secondary.

"I think the issue lies whether the candidate is representing another person and able to carry out the duties.

"People have seen Pakatan Rakyat's agenda through this crisis, so I would think in the next election, Barisan Nasional will be able to rise but it will be tough battle.

"Our analysis have shown that 51 per cent of the voters are Barisan members but we still lost a lot of seats, the goal is for all the components to work together in the next election," Mah said.

Mah added that Gerakan is well prepared to face the next election focusing on people, polls and strategies.

The workshop is held from 26 to 27 August and attended by division chiefs in the state with help of consultants on the technical, grassroots and chances of winning aspects, Mah added.
