Gerakan lambast Bung Mohktar for ‘unintelligent’ remark

KUALA LUMPUR, July 10 : Gerakan Vice-President, Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai has slammed Kinabatangan MP, Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin for sparking a controversy by comparing the spirit of the German national football team which trashed Brazil 7-1 in the World Cup semifinal to Hitler in his social media.

He said that such remarks reflected the person’s intellectual and sensitivity level towards others.

“Bung Mohktar’s remark came at the worst possible time when football fans were rejoicing the great performance of the German team. His remark vividly displayed him as ‘unintelligent’ and lack of sensitivity towards others.”

Dr Dominic in a statement to The Malaysian Times (TMT) said that Hitler and Nazi Germany are considered as extremely sensitive to the Germans which can be compared to the Article 152 and 153 in Malaysia.

Simply blurting out without thinking the consequences is extremely disrespectful to the German people who did much to overcome the atrocities committed by the Hitler and his Nazi government.

“Bung’s remarks has drawn severe criticism from not only the Malaysian public but from the German ambassador as well. Gerakan demands Datuk Bung Mokhtar to issue an unreserved apology to the German government and public for his actions.”

Dominic pointed out that if no action is being taken, bilateral relations between Malaysia and Germany will be affected as they are one of our most important partners in the West.

He also  said that investment by German companies might be withdrawn and this will affect our nation’s economy and deprive job opportunities for locals.

“Other than that, Malaysian students might face difficulties of furthering their studies in Germany which is well known for their engineering and high technology innovation around the world. Please do not allow one ridiculous remark affect the entire nation.

He  said that Gerakan is a party that will stand up and fight justice for everyone without considering skin colour, religion or nationality.
