Koh Tsu Koon welcomed return of MCA and Gerakan leaders into cabinet

Former Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon today welcomed the return of MCA and Gerakan leaders into the cabinet.

Koh said it was good to have greater representation in the cabinet, reflective of the diversity in the country.

"(The new cabinet appointments) are more inclusive. However, with the differences, we need to learn how to manage this diversity," he told the New Straits Times here today.

Koh was asked to comment on the new appointments, which saw the return of leaders of both Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties back in the fray.

MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai was appointed as Transport Minister, while MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong and Gerakan president Datuk Mah Siew Keong were appointed as Ministers in the Prime Minister's Department.

In the announcement made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, he also announced the appointments of MCA vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun as Deputy Women, Family and Community Development Minister; her colleagues Datuk Lee Chee Leong and Datuk Chua Tee Yong as deputy ministers of International Trade and Industry, and Finance respectively.

Liow's appointment as Transport Minister brings an end to Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein's tenure as the acting Transport Minister from May 15 last year.
