Penang BN to discuss preparations for Bukit Gelugor by-election

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Barisan Nasional will hold a meeting to discuss preparations on the Bukit Gelugor by-election next Monday (Apr 28).

Its chairman Teng Chang Yeow said Penang MCA would be asked to submit its list of candidates for discussion among the state BN component parties.

"We are waiting on the matter from the MCA," he said.

Teng, who will chair his first meeting after his re-appointment as Penang BN chief, said MCA would also present its suggestions and strategies at the meeting.

"We will need to know the party's plans before we strategise our preparations for the by-election," he said when asked on Penang BN's next course of action following the announcement of the Election Commission that May 25 has been set as the polling date for the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary constituency following the death of its incumbent, Karpal Singh.

Nomination day has been set for May 12.

Bukit Gelugor has a total of 82,431 registered voters, of which 148 of them are early voters while 28 are overseas voters.

On Tuesday, MCA vice-president Chua Tee Yong said MCA would field a candidate following the DAP stalwart's death in a tragic road accident on Apr 17.

BN secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor had also said that Bukit Gelugor, traditionally contested by MCA, would see its candidate fielded for the by-election.
