Gerakan Seeks Chinese Embassy's Help To Solve Credit Card-Theft Case

KUALA LUMPUR, April 20 (Bernama) -- Gerakan on Sunday called on the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia to help a Chinese national who suffered losses of over RM7,000 after her credit card was stolen three years ago.

Gerakan Public Service and Complaint Bureau chief Wilson Lau Hoi Keong said the victim, Lin Li Ying, 28, was currently living under duress as her case could not be solved because the missing card was issued and charged by the China Construction Bank in China.

"We would like to ask for the help from the Chinese Embassy here to become a mediator to solve the case before it gets worse.

"We have asked the police to reopen the case but was told to refer to the bank in China," he told a press conference here.

Lau said the woman lodged a report that her credit card was stolen at her rented house in Metro Prima, Kepong, three years ago and only found out that it had been used after the bank called her to settle her outstanding debt.

"The suspect had used the card and made three transactions in US dollar, causing the victim to be deluged with debt and blacklisted by the bank," he said.
