Chang Yeow reappointed as Penang BN chairman

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan chairman Teng Chang Yeow has been reappointed as the Penang Barisan Nasional chairman.

The post had been left vacant for more than 11 months after Teng, 49, relinquished it in May last year.

Teng, who received the appointment letter on Tuesday, thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for having faith in him.

“I wish to thank the Prime Minister for having confidence in me to continue leading the state’s Barisan.

“I also want to thank the party and other component parties for their unwavering support once again,” he said when contacted.

Teng was first appointed to the post in April 2012, replacing former chief minister and the then Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon.

He, however, resigned from his post and also as Gerakan secretary-general after GE13 where Barisan only bagged 10 seats compared to 11 in the 2008 elections.

Teng is a former Penang Gerakan Youth chief and former Padang Kota state assemblyman.

A graduate of Universiti Sains Malaysia, he was also Penang state executive councillor for Tourism Development and Environment from 2004 to 2008.
