Teng re-appointed as Penang BN chief

Penang Gerakan chairperson Teng Chang Yeow has been reappointed as the state BN chief.

The party’s national president Mah Siew Keong issued the announcement today, saying Teng’s appointment has been confirmed.

“Teng was appointed by Prime Minister and BN national chairperson Najib Abdul Razak,”  Mah said in a statement today.

Teng previously held the state BN chairperson’s post but resigned after the coalition fared poorly in the May 5 general election last year.

Teng, who then contested the Bukit Tengah state seat, lost to PKR’s incumbent Ong Chin Wen.

Later, at the party’s state election last year, Teng was elected the state chairperson, during a contest with then-state legal and human rights bureau chairpeson Baljit Singh.

Meanwhile, Mah revealed that Gerakan had proposed a number of names including Teng’s as potential candidates for the appointment as requested by Najib.

“Gerakan accepts the leadership of Penang BN with humility and a sense of responsibility and we understand that the task before us is challenging,” Mah said.

“But I hope that under Teng’s renewed leadership, Penang BN will be a more effective opposition and better understand the aspirations of Penangites as well as to improve on past shortcomings,” Mah added.

Mah then thanked all BN component parties in Penang for supporting Gerakan’s continued leadership in Penang BN, adding that he is confident Teng will restore Penang BN’s fortunes.
