Economy on minds of young voters

KUALA LUMPUR: Concerns over the economy will influence how young Malaysians vote in the next general election.

Gerakan president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon said youths and young couples were worried over how to make a decent living in an increasingly-challenging economic environment.

"Young people, especially young couples, are concerned with the economy. The economic pressure is felt by them and this burden will be their main consideration in the next voting trend," he said after chairing the party's central committee meeting yesterday.

Koh said long-term measures were needed to ease their worries.

He said the government's Economic Transformation Programme had to be "inclusive" of the cost of living and various economic programmes needed to be expanded to include those in the low-income group.
