Teng insists he chooses seat for Guan Eng battle

Penang BN chief Teng Chang Yeow is adamant that he will decide the seat on which he will contest against Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in the coming general election.

"I still maintain that I will decide the seat. As a CM, he should be bold to stand in any seat," said Teng (third from right, in photo) in a press conference today.

"Seats that reflect multi-racial composition is a good ground for both parties.

"He can contest in a state seat to show his commitment to full implementation of his policies to the people of Penang,” he stressed.

"I made the commitment the other day by stating that I will only contest of state seat".

Teng was responding to Lim's agreement to contest in a state seat if the former agrees to meet him in Padang Kota Lama.

But Lim had said he will not entertain Teng anymore if he fails to agree to Padang Kota.

Teng was assemblyperson in the Chinese majority state seat for three terms, losing to state DAP chief Chow Kon Yeow in 2008.

According to Lim, Chow was willing to contest in his constituency of Air Puteh.

On March 27, Teng said in aMalaysiakini report that he was willing to contest with the DAP secretary-general, adding "it is up to him".

"This is not a contest between individuals but policies," he said.

Teng: Challenge not by me

Meanwhile, Teng said he wanted to set the record straight by saying he did not outrightly challenge Lim (below) to face off with him.

"Many questions were raised as to why I imposed conditions when the challenge came from me," he said.

"My interview withMalaysiakini clearly stated that it is up to him to contest against me

"I cannot be held responsible for the title in the story written by Malaysiakini," he stressed.

Teng said Lim "reacted" the next day by saying that he accepted his challenge.

He added that Lim was putting words into his mouth, adding "I deemed his reaction as a challenge to me and I accepted it".
