Stop your political persecution, Guan Eng told Press Statement by Ong Thean Lye, Penang Gerakan vice-chairman and political secretary to Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department

Penang Gerakan vice-chairman Ong Thean Lye has urged Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to stop making Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, a “scapegoat” over the news announcement of a RM4bil investment by a US company in Malaysia.

Ong said international wire service Reuters, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Dr Koh himself had clearly responded and explained that the said sum was an “accumulated figure over the years” by the said company.

“However, Lim still continues his tirade against Dr Koh over this matter. Lim should stop this shameful political persecution,” said Ong in a statement.

Ong, who is also political secretary to Dr Koh, believed that Lim’s insistence to “agitate” the issue was to achieve his (Lim)’s own political agenda, despite being aware that his action could be tantamount to vindictiveness.

Ong said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had met the top management of the said US company to discuss the matter, and thus Lim’s comment that Dr Koh had “misled” the PM was “non-existence.”

Ong also said that Lim was self-contradictory when he used Utusan Malaysia’s report on the investment issue to prove his point, when Lim had all the while criticized and even banned the newspaper from covering state government-organised events.

“As a matter of fact, Lim should concentrate on developing Penang. In the last three years, he has made lots of announcements on big plans/projects such as the proposed Batu Kawan golf course by a Korean company; making Balik Pulau a centre of excellence for education; monorail, subway, skybus cable car etc. What has happened to these projects?”
