BN’s 1Malaysia policies are for ALL, Gerakan Press statement by A. Kohilan Pillay, Gerakan vice-president and Gerakan Selangor State Liaison Committee Chairman

Gerakan strongly condemns former Selangor Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo for urging the government to make a revision of government policies toward Malaysian Chinese for giving poor support to the BN candidate in the Hulu Selangor by-election.

“This is a nonsensical and irresponsible statement by the former Selangor MB,” said Gerakan’s vice-president and Selangor State Liaison Committee Chairman, A. Kohilan Pillay.

“Our federal government policies are based on inclusiveness and are catered for all Malaysians, irregardless of race, religion, culture, socioeconomic background and even ideologies,” said Kohilan, who added that the BN government is upholding the spirit of 1Malaysia.

Kohilan said that any statement by any BN leader which calls for BN to “punish” any party or community over electoral results is totally unacceptable and contradicts the very spirit of 1Malaysia.

“BN’s top leadership should seriously view and reprimand BN leaders who make such statements. Otherwise, the credibility and sincerity of the PM’s 1Malaysia concept would be doubted by the people.

Kohilan appealed to all quarters for more time and patience in studying why the overall level of Chinese support has dropped in the Hulu Selangor by-election.

Khir was reported to have written in his personal blog that the Malay and Indian community were backing BN in Hulu Selangor but the Chinese were rejecting BN to strengthen the DAP.

Kohilan stressed that by calling for government policy revision to “punish” the Chinese community would do the PM and BN a disservice in their attempt to regain the confidence and support of the people of Selangor, especially the Chinese community.

Kohilan is confident that with more explanation and continuous implementation of good government policies by the government, all Malaysians will gradually accept, support and appreciate them.
