Strained relationship in Pakatan Rakyat not over, Gerakan Press statement by Penang Gerakan secretary Ong Thean Lye

The strained relationship among component parties of Pakatan Rakyat over the resignation of Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin as deputy Chief Minister and Penanti Assemblyman is far from over, said Penang Gerakan secretary Ong Thean Lye.

Ong said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng was trying to “pull the wool over the people’s eye” that everything was back to normal after PKR leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had purportedly apologised to him for failing to keep him in the know on Fairus resignation as Penanti assemblyman.

Ong said he was informed that last weekend, the Permatang Pauh PAS division had passed a resolution, asking the PAS leadership to fill a PAS candidate to contest in Penanti, if there was a by-election. The division had also said that it did not agree with PKR’s decision to force Fairus to quit as Penanti assemblyman.

Ong reminded Lim, that as Penang Chief Minister, Lim had the prerogative to appoint a suitable replacement for Fairus as deputy Chief Minister 1.

On Fairus claim that he had been cleared by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Ong said if Fairus’s statement was true, then Fairus should withdraw his resignation as Penanti assemblyman.

“Fairus should also disclose the identity of person/persons involved in causing him the problems,” Ong
