Set up body to monitor distribution of PSD scholarships, Gerakan Youth Press statement by Gerakan Youth Chief Lim Si Pin

Gerakan Youth has urged the government to set up an independent committee comprising of education experts and the academia to monitor the distribution of government scholarships.

Its chief, Lim Si Pin, said in this way, at least the government could say the distribution was transparent and fair for all Malaysians.

“From the large number of complaint cases by unsuccessful students, it is clear something is not right in the current scholarships distribution system by the Public Services Department,” Lim said in a statement, adding that every community should be given equal opportunity for education.

Lim said a fairer distribution of the scholarships would produce a good pool of talents, especially for the high technology courses, and the graduates would later serve the nation with distinction.

He said Gerakan Youth had set up a team to help unsuccessful students to make appeals to the Cabinet.

“Unsuccessful students can contact all State Gerakan Youths to give them their data and we will take up their cases with the government,” Lim said.

Lim said the government might also consider doing away with the quota system and give PSD scholarships based on meritocracy
