GERAKAN RESPECTS THE ROYAL FAMILY’S OPINION WITHOUT POWER INTERVENTION

PRESS STATEMENT BY
GERAKAN NATIONAL PRESIDENT
DATUK DR DOMINIC LAU HOE CHAI

JULY 11, 2019

Gerakan President Datuk Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai agreed with Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin that Johor royal family can express their opinions on the definition of youth for the second time, but it should not be a political intervention.

He said that Malaysia  adopts  constitutional monarchy. The rulers enjoy a certain status, and they also have the right to express their opinions or suggestions to the government, whether it is the state or federal government policies, but they cannot be the government;  The Johor royal family only expressed their opinions on the definition of youth, but could not give any instructions.

“The Gerakan recognize the ruler’s inability to govern, and also respect and value the royal power to express opinions on state or Federal government policies."

Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai made a statement today.

He pointed out that he knows from the media reports that the Johor royal family did not issue any instructions to the state government, so there is no intervention.

On the contrary, he believes that Muhyiddin should convey his stand to Selangor Sultan who instructed Selangor PH Government to dismantle the bilingual road signs in all the new villages in the state by 11 December 2019. This has caused criticisms from the people, including the MPs.

He also said that when he led Gerakan leaders to Kuching, Sarawak, Kuching city was full of bilingual road signs, even three languages.

Therefore, he suggested Muhyiddin to explain to Selangor Sultan to retain the bilingual road signs in the state.
