MASLEE SHOULD PURSUE A PRACTICAL POLICY THAT IS CONSTRUCTIVE AND BENEFIT ALL  INSTEAD OF  PLANT COFFEE TREES

PRESS STATEMENT BY
GERAKAN NATIONAL PRESIDENT
DATUK DR DOMINIC LAU HOE CHAI

JUNE 11, 2019

In response to Education Minister Maszlee's suggestion that schools should plant coffee trees to let students know more about it, Gerakan believes that Maslee should pursue a practical policy that is constructive and benefit all instead of this trivial matter.

Gerakan National President Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai said: "I wonder if Maszlee is busy in accompanying PM to overseas visits, he has no time to visit schools, many local schools, especially Chinese primary schools already have a small vegetable garden to let students learn to grow vegetables. After the vegetables are ripe, they can bring one home each. These extracurricular activities are already in place."

Dominic Lau said in a statement today that growing vegetables is more practical than growing coffee beans; students can observe the growth of vegetables and take them home after they are ripe. However, students cannot see the processing process of coffee beans after ripe. The school would have to send the students to the coffee processing factory.

“More and more studies have shown that coffee affects children's development. Children under the age of 12 are not suitable for coffee. How can children have an interest in coffee beans without drinking coffee, let alone to know more about the process of coffee production?”

Dominic Lau pointed out that since he became minister, Maszlee has made a lot of jokes from black shoes and white shoes, open up a swimming pool in hotels to let students learn swimming, and change the name of the early child education PERMATA to GENIUS.

"Maszlee is Minister of Education, not a comedian, he should focus on the future direction of the country's education, not to change the name of an institution or change the colour of the school shoes."

Therefore, Dominic Lau urged Maszlee to spend more time fulfilling the promises of the Pakatan Harapan, such as UEC recognition.
