PH HAS NO INTENTION TO RECOGNIZE UEC

GERAKAN PRESIDENT

DATUK DR DOMINIC LAU HOE CHAI

Gerakan President Datuk Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai pointed out that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government has no intention to recognise the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC). Tun Dr. Mahathir said it is more urgent to solve Malay problems than to recognise the UEC. It is simply an excuse because UEC recognition does no contradict with Malay problems.

Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai said Bumiputera economic policy has been implemented for more than 40 years, Tun Dr. Mahathir still believes that it is unsuccessful. If the government opines that the Malays still need assistance in the next 50 years, does it mean that UEC recognition would also be extended to 50 years later?

"As a Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir should fulfil his promise. PH promised to immediately recognise UEC once it has come to power, but it has been creating more problems to delay it, therefore, the PH government is not sincere in recognising UEC, it is just a tool to gain political benefits."

Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai pointed out that DAP’s approach is even more inconsistent. Prior to the 14th General Election, DAP leaders said it would recognise UEC once it has come to power, but now DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang said that UEC would be recognised before GE15. Since DAP came to power, Teo Nie Ching pledged to work on UEC recognition before the end of 2018, and now with the latest statement by Lim Kit Siang, who would believe his promise to recognise UEC in 5 years. May I ask DAP how much further to go in the so-called ‘one mile’?

Dr. Dominic Lau stressed that we support economic policy that helps disadvantaged groups, but it is not an excuse to delay UEC recognition. He urged the PH government not to use UEC recognition as a political tool, education should not be politicised, UEC recognition must be implemented as soon as possible.

“Malaysia is a multiracial country, it is an advantage. Tun Dr. Mahathir has previously said that there are many talents in Chinese and Indian communities, PH government can recruit professionals from all races to set up a committee to assist in governing and monitoring Bumiputera economic policies, it is to ensure there would be effective changes to the Bumiputera economy. A committee comprised of all races enables interaction between different cultures and values, it would be easier for the government to implement affirmative policy.
