New faces eyeing Gerakan top posts, says Mah

IPOH: Candidates vying for the top three positions in Gerakan are all new faces, says outgoing president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong.

“I am not contesting for the president post, and I was told that the deputy president, as well as one senior vice-president will not be seeking re-election as well.

“Thus we will be seeing new faces representing the party, and I have full confidence in the candidates,” he told reporters after launching the Perak Gerakan delegates meeting at a hotel here on Sunday.

The Gerakan national delegates meeting as well as the polls would take place on Nov 17.

Mah said the usual two-day delegates meeting would be shortened to a day, and that 23 national positions would be contested.

“However I want to reiterate that the party polls must be carried out in a healthy manner, and there should not be any personal attacks, infighting, or any split.

“Recently, we have been reading about internal conflicts at party polls involving other political parties, and I hope Gerakan will not head towards that direction,” he added.

The party unanimously agreed to leave Barisan Nasional in June after joining the Alliance in 1972.

The Alliance was renamed Barisan Nasional two years later.
