Quit Selangor government first, Gerakan tells DAP

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Gerakan Youth has advised DAP to take a look at its own partners before asking any Barisan Nasional (BN) component party to quit the coalition.

Selangor Gerakan Youth vice-chairman Ivanpal Grewal Singh was responding to a statement made by DAP Socialist Youth (DAPsy) chief Wong Kah Woh who today challenged Gerakan and 13 other Barisan Nasional component parties to issue Umno an ultimatum over the Malay party’s support for PAS’ bill to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355).

Wong had also dismissed Gerakan deputy youth chief Andy Yong’s threat to quit the party if Gerakan supported the proposed amendments to Act 355.

In response, Ivanpal said Wong should take his own advice and ensure his party quits the Selangor state government as PAS is still represented.

He also accused DAP’s partners, PKR and Amanah, of being completely “rudderless” on the issue of the amendments to Act 355.

“Clearly, DAP is a party devoid of principles and so they have no moral authority to ask any BN component party to quit the coalition,” he told FMT.

Ivanpal also took his attacks against Wong to a personal level, calling him delusional and untrustworthy.

“Wong is delusional and has no credibility, so he should not even mention the name Gerakan or MCA, let alone ask any of our leaders to quit.”

At the Bebas counter-rally to PAS’ RUU355 rally today, Yong pledged to resign if his party voted in favour of PAS’ proposed amendments to Act 355.

He made this promise as he stood in front of the crowd gathered at the Tasik Taman Jaya here to express their objection to the amendments which was tabled in the Dewan Rakyat last year.
