Gerakan: Guan Eng must answer the regular joe, too

GEORGE TOWN: Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng will only answer Umno ministers, not “regular joes” with issues, Gerakan vice-chairman Oh Tong Keong said today.

“I want to question the sincerity of the right honourable chief minister, who loves our state so much,” Oh said at a press conference at Gurney Drive here.

Oh was referring to Lim’s recent statement that he would only answer ministers such as Senator Chew Mei Fun and Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, and not people such as Oh.

“The CM had beaten his chest saying he would listen to the voices of his rakyat, but he is now saying he will only listen to Umno leaders and its ministers.

“I, as a rakyat of Penang, have raised 10 issues before this. I, like other Penangites deserve answers on this too,” Oh said.

The Gerakan man recently hit out at Lim for launching his “I love Penang” campaign over suggestions to place the state under federal rule.

Oh had responded to the campaign, saying Lim did not love Penang as many hills had been rampantly cleared during his tenure as chief minister.

On a different note, Oh asked the Penang government to state the plan for a piece of reclaimed land off Gurney Drive.

Oh said out of 131 acres, the purpose of the 71-acre plot had not been announced.

“We wonder if this plot of land is going to be used to build bungalows? The state government must explain,” he said.

Oh was referring to a reclamation effort as part of the Gurney Wharf project – a waterfront park created on reclaimed land about 5km from the foreshore of Gurney Drive, ending with a 400m artificial beach.

It will feature a seaside retail food and beverage area, water gardens, a man-made beach and a coastal grove.

It was also reported that a mall, two hotels, a business centre, and wellness suites will be built on the site.

An eight-lane highway will be built across the reclaimed area.
