Gerakan Youth: Ku Nan's call to make Penang FT not insulting ruler

Press statement by

Gerakan Deputy Youth Chief

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Mansor did not insult the Penang Yang di-Pertuan Negeri when he suggested the state be turned into a federal territory, said Gerakan Youth deputy chief Andy Yong.

He was responding to DAP's Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng, who accused Tengku Adnan, who is better known as Ku Nan, of insulting the ruler with his proposal.

Tengku Adnan in an interview yesterday also proposed Langkawi be turned into a federal territory.

Yong said since coming under federal purview, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan have benefited from numerous incentives, including the MRT project.

"Any idea or proposal for the benefit of the people should be encouraged. I do not see there is anything wrong with Ku Nan's proposal to have more systematic and better quality territories for city-dwellers.

"Recently, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has urged that the administrative excellence in federal territories be maintained to ensure the people's well-being, prosperity and joy.

"So, under what circumstances did Tengku Adnan insult the Penang ruler? Lip Eng did not explain.

“To me, it is more of a political statement trying to create an unsubstantiated accusation," he said in a statement.

Yong said Lim should lodge a police report against Tengku Adnan, if he truly believes the minister had insulted the ruler.

Citing London and New York, he said, federal territorial governments have shown success in securing high quality of life for those residing in the area.
