Gerakan to Chinese community: Don't fall prey to DAP rhetoric

KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan Wanita chief Datuk Tan Lian Hoe urged the Chinese community not to blindly reject candidates from their own race just because of the political parties they represent.
She said the Chinese should 'open their eyes’ and stop falling prey to hateful and divisive rhetoric propagated by the Opposition, especially the DAP.
Tan added that the present ruling government is here to stay, and it will not benefit the Chinese if they continue to vote in the same pattern as the previous General Election.
In the last General Election, Chinese candidates from Gerakan and MCA who had contested mainly in Chinese majority seats were largely wiped out.
“It’s been 10 years now and the Opposition has failed to deliver for the rakyat, it’s all talk and no action.
“Not only that, the Opposition is consumed by a power struggle and is unable to form a lasting partnership with one another,” she told delegates in her keynote address at the party wing's annual general meeting held at Gerakan headquarters here today.
She warned that the Opposition will continue to harp on the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue.
As such, she urged the authorities to wrap up their investigation before the next General Election so that the matter can be laid to rest.
Meanwhile, Tan also called on Barisan Nasional component parties to respect one another to prevent internal sabotage and infighting.
“We must ensure that only winnable, well-respected candidates who truly want to serve the rakyat are selected to contest in the General Election.
“This is vital, as voters focus more on the candidates rather than the political party represented,” she said.
