Penang Gerakan Youth protest proposed LRT railways

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Gerakan Youth have voiced their concerns over the proposed Light Rail Transit (LRT) railways to be built in front a primary school in Sungai Nibong.

Its secretary Teo Yin Horng expressed his displeasure, saying that the construction could cause noise pollution and danger if it is built too close to the school.

He said that while the BN component party's youth wing was not against any developments which benefit the people, the state government should consult Penangites before making any decision.

He called on the state government to listen to the students' grievances as they reject the proposal through their drawings.

"We will also forward these drawings by post to Penang's Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Abdul Rashid Hasnon and Prof Ramasamy as well as MBPP's mayor Datuk Patahiyah Ismail," he told reporters, today.

Teo hoped that the Penang government will not make any hasty decision to allow the LRT railways to be built in front of the entrance of school.

" The school children need a tranquil learning environment so as to pay more attention to the school lessons," he said, adding it makes a lot of difference for the children to excel in their studies with a good and conducive learning environment.
