A serious fire broke out two weeks ago in a new village at Jalan Lower Kovil Hilir Sentul, where 8 single story wooden houses near Sentul Utama Secondary School were destroyed, causing many to lose their homes.

Batu Gerakan Service Center Coordinator Dr. Dominic Lau Hoe Chai said that, a group of Gerakan Batu Division members had immediately rushed to the community hall where the victims were temporarily sheltered to comfort them and provided necessary assistance and arrangements with the hope that they would be relocated to proper homes in the shortest time possible. At the same time, the team had also contacted Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan to allocate PPR flats to these victims as soon as possible in order for them to rebuild their homes. After we followed-up the case, DBKL had agreed to allocate PPR flats for these fire victims. The letters of approval and relief funds from DBKL will be given to the fire victims by Tengku Adnan as well. There are a total 19 Chinese families and 4 Indian families would be moving to PPR flats in Bukit Jalil on May 15.

“Although many victims had expressed their wish to be relocated to PPR flats in Batu, but there are a limited number of flats available in the area. As such, we suggest the affected families to move to Bukit Jalil temporarily and we will help them to apply for relocation once there are empty PPR units in Batu. Nevertheless, they were grateful after receiving news over the arrangements by DBKL and thanked Gerakan Batu Division for the assistance provided so that they could be relocated in such a short time after the fire incident,” said Lau.

Lau also added that, Gerakan will continue to serve the residents in Baru parliamentary constituency and solve their livelihood issues as well as to improve their quality of life.
