Andy Yong: Wan Junaidi talks rubbish on accusing non-Malays ‘more accepting’ of child rape

Deputy National Youth Chief of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia, Andy Yong condemns Deputy Home Minister Wan Junaidi Wan Jaafar’s remarks by saying that non-Malays are “more accepting” of statutory rape than Malays as reported recently in his parliamentary debate.

Wan Junaidi implied that the non-Malays can accept “illegitimate children” compare to the Malays who are more sensitive, which is why the latter have lodged more reports compared to the former.  Andy said “if what was said by the Deputy Minister is true, it is ridiculous for him to accuse non-Malays do not mind having “illegitimate children”.  Is he suggesting that victims of non-Malays do not mind to give birth to a child of whom she is raped?  The issue here is about statutory rape under section 376 of the Penal Code, no one regardless of race can tolerate with such crime”.

“To me the reason there are more reported rape cases by the Malays is simply because it is the truth where such crime is committed considering the majority of the population are Malays.  There could be also other reason such as the fear of embarrassment and distrust of the credibility of the police force” further said by Andy.

“As far as I am concerned, many of the non-Malays victims aborted the child as a consequence of being raped and not simply they are “more accepting”.  I hope that in future MPs can debate sensibly and constructively in the Parliament instead of quoting unsubstantial remarks” concludes Andy.
