Dr Dominic condemns death threat Press Statement by Gerakan Youth Secretary General Dr Dominic Lau

Referring to the voices of protest against BERSIH 2.0, Gerakan Youth Secretary General Dr Dominic Lau today criticizes the act of sending death threat via sms. The movement against BERSIH 2.0 is getting more and more heated up, not only are there many leaflets against BERSIH 2.0, BERSIH Chief Ambiga had also received death threat via sms warning her to call off the BERSIH rally which is scheduled to be carried out on 9 July, 2011.  Gerakan Youth condemns the act of sending death threats as it is a dangerous act which threatens the safety of individuals.

Dr Dominic said, “using death threat as a means to release dissatisfied emotions is an act of violent and we do not allow such culture to spread in our country.”

With this, Dr Dominic urges the police to carry out full investigation into this matter, including the authenticity and the source of the text message.  Dr Dominic also advices Ambiga to seriously consider whether she should proceed with the BERSIH 2.0 rally after going through so much hurdles and receiving so much negative criticism from the public, taking into account the issue of her personal safety as well as social security. Dr Dominic also feels that Ambiga should consider accepting the invitation for a discussion on election matters from the SPR thus avoiding the unnecessary rally.
