Improvements will regain confidence of the people, Gerakan Press statement by Datuk Chang Ko Youn, Gerakan Deputy President and Head of Legal and Human Rights Bureau

Improved efficiency of the delivery system in the courts will help to regain the trust and confidence of the people, said Gerakan Deputy President Datuk Chang Ko Youn.

He said it was an important step forward to improve competitiveness of the nation as a whole and consistent with “justice must not only be done but seen to be done.”

“At least the people can avoid the frustration of feeling justice delayed is justice denied,” he said, adding the improvement also showed a great effort by court staff to improve efficiency and to speed up backlogged cases which could be dealt with speedily.

Noticing improvements of the delivery system, Chief Justice Tan Sri Zaki Tun Azmi yesterday said the improvements were visible from the praises and constructive comments made by the public.

“Efforts to provide better services include approvals for draft orders less than four days at regular courts, or 20 minutes at the Federal Court Registrar’s office, and searches for files being completed within the same day,” Zaki said at the 2008 Excellence Service Awards Presentation Ceremony in Putrajaya.

In addition, Datuk Chang also hopes that Chief Justice Zaki's previous priorities such as reducing the postponement of cases and delivery of the notes of evidence and grounds of judgment should be improved.
