Students’ proficiency in BM will be better, Gerakan Press Statement by Gerakan Youth Deputy Chief Oh Tong Keong

Gerakan has described “as a positive move” by the government to give training to Bahasa Melayu teachers in Chinese independent schools, to help them teach better.
Gerakan Youth deputy chief Oh Tong Keong said it would also help to improve the students’ proficiency in the language.

“National unity will be enhanced as the students would be able to have closer interaction with other races including the Malays, Indians and Dayaks,” said Oh in a statement.

Oh said the students would have an added advantage to be able to read, write and speak well in our national language, adding that the growth of Chinese independent schools was good for the nation.

“We look forward to seeing more positive measures by the government to help Chinese independent schools,” he said.

Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said yesterday the government’s decision would strengthen the students’ command of Malay. It was also to honour the private schools’ contribution to human capital development.
