June 28, 2016

Gerakan vice-president Datuk A. Kohilan Pillay welcomed the cabinet reshuffle announced by Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak yesterday which saw the appointment of Gerakan president Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong as Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities. Kohilan said the appointment was a recognition of Gerakan’s relevance and efforts.

Kohilan thanked the Prime Minister for his confidence in Gerakan. He said Gerakan as one of the founding parties of BN has always been a committed and effective partner. He said the party takes its roles in BN and the government seriously by being proactive in promoting national unity, governance as well as deliverance of results. He said the party gladly continues its involvement in the inception and implementation of people-centric policies and nation’s development. He also expressed that the party is confident and hopeful that the given opportunity of a new ministerial role will enable a bigger role-playing in governance and nation’s development.

Kohilan said the reappointment of Tanjung Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar into the cabinet as Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister was a recognition to Selangor BN after its impressive victory in the recently concluded Sungai Besar by-election. He said the portfolio would be vital for BN to regain Selangor in the next general election by effectively addressing the housing issues and urban poor.

He also said the appointment of Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan as Minister in Prime Minister’s Department in charge of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) was apt and necessary. He believed the new ministerial leadership in EPU will provide fresh motivation and ideas for the government to spearhead the nation’s pursuit of socio-economic advancement. He added that a stronger leadership in EPU will enable the government to rebut unfounded and misleading criticisms from irresponsible parties.

Kohilan also expressed confidence that Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani’s promotion from Deputy Finance Minister to the Second Finance Minister is good as he is a former corporate man with extensive experience and knowledge in economics and finance. He believed Datuk Johari Abdul Ghani’s appointment will help the Prime Minister steering the economy through choppy waters.
