Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia (PGRM) fully supports action taken against opposition elements who refuse to obey the law. They very well know that a police permit is required for holding cheramahs. This applies to all Parties, including the Barisan Nasional, who have often had their applications turned down. But Barisan Nasional Parties follow Police advice, and do not behave like hooligans.
The Police, in the case in Terengganu might have felt that the venue was unsuitable and invited the organizers to discuss moving to alternate locations. But they, in their typical arrogance, failed to show up. It perhaps was their objective to cause mayhem.
Their defiant attitude caused injury and damage to public property. It is indeed shocking and shameful behavior. The people should demonstrate their disgust at irresponsible thugs like these by completely rejecting the Parties they represent.
Dato Dr. S. Vijayaratnam,
Vice President,
Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia.
