It is indeed shocking to learn that a Guang Ming lady photographer was allegedly attacked by PKR security personnel at a recent cheramah.
In the first place, I did not know that political parties were allowed to have their own security force. Are they licensed? Do they carry firearms? What is the scope of their duties?
We certainly don’t want political parties to employ such characters, as it could lead to uncalled-for violence, as in the case above. People might get seriously injured (or worse) just because so-called security staff perceives someone to be a threat, when, in fact they may be innocent by-standers or reporters doing their job.
If PKR had a problem, they should have immediately brought it to the attention of the Police.
This incident is a shame. PKR is quick to blame the authorities for being coarse and high-handed. But when they themselves indulge in it, and take the law into their hands, then they are equally guilty. What is the difference? The cry for justice sounds hollow when you can’t even deliver it within your own organization.
The public should now see them for what they really are.
