Written by Dato Dr. S. Vijayaratnam...

I hope that the DAP and PKR are now happy with their partner PAS, who are beginning to show their true colors by trying to allow Islamic law to creep in. The Selangor PAS Youth have asked for the banning of performers Ella and Mas Idayu at the Sultan of Selangor Cup match.

Naturally, it has incurred the wrath of His Royal Highness; it would do well to remind PAS that H.R.H. The Sultan is the head of religion in the State.

Earlier, PAS Youth had also demanded that Syariah and Islamic administration be introduced in States controlled by Pakatan Rakyat Governments, completely disregarding the sizable non-Muslim populations. They have also stated their intention to turn Malaysia into their version of a full-fledged Islamic State, if returned to power at the Federal level.

All that talk about setting aside their Islamic agenda for the purpose of uniting with the DAP and PKR is coming to naught. It seems that the DAP continues to be naïve, even after being told in the face that “that the DAP is not Karpal Singh and Lim Kit Siang alone.”

We had warned that this issue would eventually surface, once PAS is brought into the picture. What is surprising is the speed at which they are trying to push their agenda.

While acknowledging that Islam shall be the religion of the Federation as stipulated in the constitution, Parti Gerakan rejects any form of total Islamic governance as advocated by PAS, where Syariah and Hudud replace civil law and administration.

    Dato Dr. S. Vijayaratnam,
    Vice President,
    Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia.
