Gerakan National Youth Chairman, Dato' Mah Siew Keong
welcome several decisions taken by the government to
reduce the public administration operating expenditure
this year that would save RM 2 billion while commenting
that the 10% entertainment allowance reduction for ministers
is not enough.
"Since this is entertainment allowance, 50% cut
will be more efficient and can send a clear signal to
all the government departments to spend prudently. This
are hard times and need drastic measures."
Cost-cutting by the government shows that the government
is changing their spending behaviour to overcome the
difficult time together with the rakyat after the fuel
price hike. The rakyat are facing the negative impact
and the good move taken by the government show the leadership
by example.
"All ministries and government departments should
have a target of reducing cost of 10% by this year end
and all 5-star hotel function by government department
must be reduced and if possible towards zero 5-star
hotel function."
Money saved from government expenditure should be channelled
towards low income earners. The rakyat are keen to know
where the money saved to be spent. Therefore, the government
should announce the details soonest and it is part of
process to increase transparency."
