Gerakan National Youth Chairman, Dato’ Mah Siew Keong welcome the effort by Minister of Higher Education, YB Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin to review and amend the Universities and Universities College Act (UUCA) 1971 and further table the UUCA amendments in Parliament by the end of this year.
Gerakan National Youth will convene a special task force to receive feedback from universities student leaders and make a proposal to the ministry.
“As this Act will affect our younger generation, we will meet the universities student leaders soon. Let get their opinion and input.”
The reforms in higher education to be taking place show that the government is serious in raising the Malaysian higher education system especially the standards of the country’s public universities.
The consideration by the Minister to allow students to be involved in politics is a positive step forward for Malaysia and Gerakan National Youth hopes it will be given urgent consideration to reflect the changing circumstances as compared to 30 years ago.
Dato Mah Siew Keong,
Gerakan National Youth Chairman
