PGRM is glad that positive action is being taken by the IGP in allegations of corrupt practices against ACA Chief Datuk Zulkipli Mat Noor. It is important to be seen to be reactive to the issue. This will lessen perceptions of a lackadaisical attitude on the part of the authorities, or worse still, a cover-up. A recent article in “The Economist” is uncomplimentary to anti-corruption efforts in the country. However much we deny and criticise such foreign reports, it is important to note that businessmen the world over will be reading such magazines. To them, it is reliable information. These are the same people we are trying to attract as investors in the Iskandar Development and other regions. Hence it is imperative that negative perceptions regarding graft be removed, and going into denial mode is not helpful. Swift positive steps to address corruption is the only way to portray to concerned, potential investors that the Government is serious in combating this menace.
