SUNGAI PETANI, July 1 (Bernama) -- State executive councillor Datuk Fong Chok Gin Friday retained his post as Kedah Gerakan chief, trouncing his rival by a big margin at the state delegates conference here.

Fong received 168 votes against 79 by his challenger Cheung Khai Yan, who is also Derga state assemblyman and state former vice-chairman, an appointed post.

Fong has helmed the Kedah Gerakan since 1996.

A total of 249 delegates from 15 divisions took part in Friday's polling. There were two spoilt votes.

The meeting was opened by deputy president Datuk Seri Kerk Choo Ting.
