Gerakan Vice President Datuk A. Kohilan Pillay welcomed the launching of Bumiputera Economic Transformation Roadmap (BETR) 2.0 of the Bumiputera Wellbeing Transformation by Prime Minister Dato’ Sri Najib Tun Razak at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre yesterday which aims to empower the Bumiputera Agenda.

Kohilan praised the government’s commitment and efforts in empowering fellow Bumiputera through comprehensive and forward-looking roadmap. He opined that results from the transformation plan throughout its 6 years implementation were conspicuous with many lives enhanced and more opportunities created for members of the community to fulfil their potential.

While the government is helping the Bumiputera, he was glad that other communities were not left behind nor forgotten by the government. He said it was evidenced in the National Indian Blueprint slated to be unveiled on Sunday (April 23). It was revealed that a special unit under the Prime Minister’s Department headed by a director-general will implement the 10-year action plan with special targets and policies set in place to address the plight of 1.7 million Indians in the country.

He was upbeat and excited about a fresh federal initiative enabling more and more Indians to be on par with other communities. He hoped the middle 40 per cent of Indians would be able to access governmental assistance to improve their income levels and raise their quality of life under the new Blueprint.

“The good intentions of the Government must be translated into results, I am confident that the soon-to-be-announced Blueprint will emulate the success of the Bumiputera Wellbeing Transformation, it is our hope that more and more Indians would be able to attain upward social mobility and be part of the nation’s socio-economic success and prosperity,” said Kohilan.

Kohilan said Gerakan had submitted a memorandum to the Government in December 2016. A number of proposals to address the plight of Indians and also plans to improve the wellbeing of the Indian community have been proposed to the Government by the Gerakan’s Special Indian Task Force. He was confident that the new Blueprint will incorporate some of the useful ideas and translate them into policies that benefit the Indian community.
