Gerakan Youth: Review BTN<br>Written by The Edge Financial Daily

KUALA LUMPUR: Gerakan Youth has called for a review and overhaul of the Biro Tata Negara (BTN) programme to make it more in tune with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's 1Malaysia spirit.

In a statement today, Gerakan Youth secretary-general Dr Dominic Lau said based on feedback from the public, some officers in BTN had abused their position and power to fan racial sentiment.

"BTN's objectives are good — that is to create a national identity and enhance unity. But the problem arises when the organiser or facilitator deviates from the objectives," he said.

Lau was commenting on a call by Batu Caves state assemblyman Amirudin Shari urging the Selangor state government to stop sending graduates to attend BTN programme, which is under the Prime Minister's Department, because it "inculcates racial sentiments amongst students".

Parti Gerakan is committed towards building a stable political environment in Malaysia. Such stability can only come about through continued commitment to our current long-tested system of constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy. Malaysians must renew their pledge of commitment towards this system and resist efforts aimed at its replacement. Equally important, consultations as a means of resolving conflict and differences must continue to be built into our political culture.
