PENANG: Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon is promoting Penang as an ICT industry hub of excellence at the 15th World Congress of Information Technology (WCIT) 2006 in the United States.

Apart from participating in the Innovation Exchange session yes- terday, Dr Koh also took the opportunity to further network with IT industry leaders.

Dr Koh also promoted the Penang Cyber City and industrial parks as the location of choice for the outsourcing industry.

He also plans to meet and discuss future investment plans with existing US investors, according to a state- ment from the Chief Minister抯 office yesterday.

Dr Koh left Penang on Monday to join the Malaysian delegation led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to the WCIT in Austin, Texas.

As Malaysia will be hosting WCIT 2008, Abdullah was given the honour to deliver a keynote address at the closing ceremony this Friday.

Also in the Malaysian delegation are Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis.

Others in the group are representatives from Multimedia Development Corporation (MDC), Association of the Computer and Multimedia Industry Malaysia (Pikom) and Malaysian ICT technopreneurs.
