PENANG: Wawasan Open University (WOU) is financially strong and its future is secure, irrespective of the fortunes and future of Gerakan.
WOU council chairman and Gerakan advisor Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik gave this assurance, saying that the changing political scenario following the general election, including the formation of a new government in Penang, will have no bearing on the status and growth of the university.
He assured students and staffers that the university would continue to develop and progress as planned although Gerakan was the one that initiated its establishment.
He also said WOU was moving ahead with the establishment of the Centre for Dialogue (C4D), which was to be set up at the headquarters and expected to be operational by year-end.
Dr Lim hoped the new government in Penang would view the university as another asset.
