Keng Yaik plans to start blog, write book on 36 years in politics

It’s better late than never and that is why retired cabinet minister Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik plans to start blogging.

The former Gerakan president and ex-Energy, Water and Communications Minister hopes to join blogosphere and his will no doubt be a focal site for those familiar with his acerbic wit and outspoken views.

However, as to what his blog will contain, or what it’s called, or when it will be up, Dr Lim is keeping mum.
“It’s none of your business. You go and check the Internet. When it’s up, it’s up,” he said when reporters asked about his blog.

Dr Lim was speaking at a joint press conference with his successor, Datuk Shaziman Abu Mansor, after a ceremony yesterday for Dr Lim to handover duties to his former deputy.

The veteran politician said he had full confidence in Shaziman to lead the ministry. “In the last two years after I decided to retire, Shaziman has been taking over the running of most of the ministry. I was helping him more than he was helping me.

“He knows the functions of this ministry very well and he will carry out all that has been planned, whether it’s implementation of water industry reforms, or broadband expansion for the communications industry.”

However, Dr Lim cautioned that Shaziman’s biggest challenge would be to manage price increases for oil and gas.

“This will be his trickiest challenge. How to manage the conflicting interests of Petronas, the independent power producers, Tenaga Nasional Berhad and the consumer. I admit it is a very big challenge, it was too big even for me,” Dr Lim said.

Asked to recall memorable experiences from his 36 years spent in government and politics, Dr Lim quipped: “I can’t tell you about 36 years in one press conference. Wait for my book to come out, and read it slowly.”
