Don’t give votes to cheats, urges Ong

PENANG: Penangites should not leave their future to DAP and PKR which had no vision or experience, MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting said.

“They only know how to give empty promises,” he said, adding that they were only capable of fiery ceramah where much of the content was untrue and misleading.

Their promises, he added, were impossible to implement and they were never consistent with what they said.

Ong was addressing thousands of people who had gathered at Rifle Range here for the Malam Satu Hati Bersama Rakyat yesterday.

He reminded the crowd that Penang had the unique position of being the only state in Malaysia which had a Chinese chief minister.

“Therefore it is important for the Chinese parties to have enough representatives in Barisan to share the same political power as other component parties,” he said.

Ong said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi had in an interview with a Chinese newspaper stated his stand on wanting a multiracial Government.

“It is important for us to have representatives in the mainstream politics to ensure our interests are taken care of,” he said.

Ong said it had taken over eight years for the MCA and Gerakan to undo many of the Chinese school problems Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim created when he was in Govern- ment.

“Over the past eight years, MCA has worked closely with Gerakan to untie the knots and solved many Chinese schools problems through proper discussions in Cabinet,” he said.

Ong questioned DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng’s move to contest in Penang as the state had many talented local politicians who were willing to serve the public effectively.

Describing Lim as being greedy, Ong said: “Knowing his slim chances in Kota Melaka, he (Lim) abandoned the seat with many unfulfilled promises, came to Penang and contested in two seats, one in the mainland and one on the island.

“All he wants is to fulfil his own political agenda in a predominantly Chinese state.”

Lim is contesting the Bagan parliamentary seat and Air Putih state seat.

Earlier at Paya Terubong, Ong said unlike the opposition, MCA was able to debate and discuss Chinese community issues in the Cabinet to get a win-win situation.

He said the DAP was trying very hard to cheat the Chinese community into believing they were heroes who could fight for their welfare.

However, he said their all talk was empty.

He said the Chinese were known for strategy and political wisdom and they should not let others use them as a tool in their disputes or for their own interest.

“We should never let our rational thinking be shaken by their ceramah,” he said.
