Barisan Nasional’s candidate for Kepong, Lau Hoi Keong, is taking advantage of the disenchantment of voters against the lack of service by the DAP incumbent.
Lau, 39, who is also Gerakan Kepong division Youth chief, said although he had high regards for Dr Tan Seng Giaw, 65, voters wanted change and to be represented by a young and vibrant member of parliament who could understand their needs better.
He admitted that while it would not be easy to unseat Dr Tan, a six-term MP, voters were tired of DAP's unfulfilled promises.
Lau, who speaks Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin, Tamil, and two Chinese dialects - Cantonese and Hakka - has been actively involved in politics since joining Gerakan in 1996.
Asked how he learned Tamil, he said grew up in the Sungai Jernih Estate in Kerling, Hulu Selangor.
"I went to school and played soccer with my Indian friends, and picked up the language from them," he said, adding that, Tamil was an asset to him when campaigning in Indian areas.
